2025 Config Keynote
Sanghyo Yee
Intro & Vision
A Game-Changing Product Lineup from Figma has been released! Design is evolving beyond its traditional boundaries - it's no longer just a step in the process, but has become the process itself. In today's AI-driven world, design's role is becoming more essential and powerful, not less. While AI makes software development increasingly accessible, it's design that provides the crucial differentiator - the craft, quality, and point of view that makes products stand out and be loved. Design is about leading with curiosity, constantly asking "what if," obsessing over details, chasing feelings, and pushing what's possible. As Figma's CEO emphasized, this isn't about just pushing pixels; it's about shaping experiences that resonate in a world where technical barriers are falling away, making the designer's perspective and craft more valuable than ever.
Layout & Grid
Finally, a true grid system in Figma! From auto-column/row adjustments to drag-and-drop grid spanning, they've nailed the fundamentals of web design. The seamless CSS Grid compatibility will bridge the designer-developer gap like never before. Here are key bulletpoints;
Site
The New Web Building Paradigm - Figma's jumping into website building with both feet. Breakpoint support for responsive design and smooth component library integration. The live HTML/CSS preview will revolutionize the design-to-development workflow - no need to call developers anymore, design and then publish in a second. CMS functionality coming later in 2025, things are about to get even better. Here are the main points;
This website was even created 100% with Figma, and it has implemented breakpoints and typography styles. It also supports block-style AI features and custom iframe embed functionality, so I believe we will see even more diverse applications in the future. (I applied the footer's Lottie animation using the iframe sharing method.)
Make
This AI prototyping tool is truly remarkable. Its support for 3D rendering, shaders, and immersive environments demonstrates Figma's serious ambitions. The point-and-edit and point-and-prompt features are set to open new horizons in prototyping. You start from Figma frames and can even designate each layer to prompt something specific - the possibilities are endless.
AI-powered prototyping tool
Converts designs into interactive experiences
Supports 3D rendering, shaders, and immersive environments
Features point-and-edit and point-and-prompt tools
Includes in beta for full seat users
Will become a paid product post-beta.
Buzz
A gift to marketing teams everywhere. Template-based asset creation and bulk generation through CSV uploads? Genius. The multi-channel asset management capabilities are just icing on the cake.
Will be included in full/dev seats and new content seat
Draw
Tons of new features in vector editing - called drow. Multi-object editing with pattern fills, text on path - they've completely transcended traditional vector tool limitations. The brush strokes and dynamic strokes features are particularly impressive;
Available to all users immediately
Pre-played with the feature while participating as alpha tester - Honored that my illustration has been showcased during the keynote :D
Outro
The 2025 Config keynote marks a pivotal moment in Figma's evolution. By doubling their product portfolio from four to eight, they're not just expanding - they're redefining what's possible in the design space. What began as a radical idea of browser-based co-design has become the industry standard, and these new releases suggest we're on the cusp of another transformation. With Grid, Sites, Make, Buzz, and enhanced Draw capabilities, Figma isn't just keeping pace with the industry - they're actively shaping its future. The question isn't whether these tools will change how we work, but how quickly we'll wonder how we ever worked without them.
